How to volunteer from home during COVID-19 lockdown
While the COVID-19 lockdown has heralded many challenges for students, it is also creating free time for students-allowing them time to come together virtually and help out. This is a good time to continue with volunteering programs and community service acts from home. Be sure to find out what your community needs and try to bridge that gap by lending your services. Here are some more virtual volunteering ideas:
Support for senior citizens - Call senior citizens or those living alone, check on them, offer help with their essential shopping, teach them to use apps to facilitate online deliveries of essentials and provide communication conduits
Support local essential service businesses - Make posters and flyers for them to publicise mask-wearing and social distancing norms
Join a Global Initiative - Along with its partner organizations, the United Nations invites volunteers to "address sustainable development challenges, anywhere in the world, from any device". You can also become a digital advocate for larger organizations like Red Cross.
Fluency in a second language can help organisations like Translators Without Borders, looking for people to translate medical texts, crisis-response messages, etc.
Organize donation drives for educational resources – Some students do not have the resources to complete their homework and projects. Organize donation drives to raise funds for them.
