Pursuing a 3 year Bachelor of Law (LLB) in UK
To study 3-year LLB program, you can apply through UCAS. Some UK Universities allow the students to apply directly to their programs. The application will be sent to the University or Universities that you will select. You can apply to up to 5 Universities. All LLB degrees at UK universities are accredited by the Bar Council of England and Wales and the Law Society of England and Wales.
Entry RequirementsTypical International Baccalaureate requirements: 34 points.
Typical A-levels requirements: AAB.
Typical IELTS requirements: 6.5 overall, with no lower than 6.0 in any one component.
However Entry requirements vary depending upon the requirements of the individual university. Academic requirement may vary from 65% to 95% in XII standard. You will have to sit for English language test approved by UK
Border Agency such as IELTS, TOEFL or PET Academic and score the requisite grades.
Few renowned Universities ask for LNAT score in addition to basic entry requirements. Some of the UK Universities that require the students to sit for LNAT are Durham University, University of Glasgow, King’s College London, University of Nottingham, University of Oxford, SOAS, University of London.
Law can also be studied as a combination with another subject or foreign language, while conversion courses are also available if you decide you want to change the direction of your current education path.
The Bar Council of India recognizes law degrees from 35 UK universities. There are two different options you have:
1. Registration for students having LLB degree from recognised UK University
Apply for registration to your respective State Bar Council after returning to India
State Bar Council will forward your application to Bar Council of India
Sit for an exam on six subjects, which is conducted twice by Bar Council of India
You are permitted to practice law in India on successfully qualifying the exam
2. Registration for students having LLB degree from non-recognised UK University
Apply directly to Bar Council of India
Your application will be considered on case-to-case basis for approval
If your application got approval, you can practice Law in India
